It’s 2026,

CAPTURING THE UNSEEN I don’t know how other wedding photographers feel every New Year, whether they wonder if this will be the year they keep going, or the year they pivot into something else. Some already have weddings booked, and that alone can be enough to keep you in the game. One more year turns…

CAPTURING THE UNSEEN

I don’t know how other wedding photographers feel every New Year, whether they wonder if this will be the year they keep going, or the year they pivot into something else. Some already have weddings booked, and that alone can be enough to keep you in the game. One more year turns into two… and suddenly you look up and realize it’s been three.

This is my third year.

And with that comes reflection. It’s hard not to fall into comparison, but when I look at growth instead, I see that every year has looked completely different. I think about the very first couple who booked me, the trust they placed in me, that first deposit. That moment still feels epic to me. It always will.

This January has been special. It’s been one of the first times where things have truly flowed: sending a package, receiving a yes, bookings coming in the same day. Simply reaching that point feels like an achievement in itself. Are these exactly the sessions I once imagined as my ultimate goals? Not entirely, but doing more, creating more, has stretched and encouraged me creatively in ways that I know matter.

The film industry has still been on my mind, of course. I’m not sure when or how that door will open. An opportunity did come, and now it’s been delayed, and wow, delays stirs things up. But maybe this pause is good. Maybe it’s time to practice, to prepare, to grow quietly. So here’s to learning patience in the waiting.

A quick note: I chose assurance as my word of the year.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
— Hebrews 11:1

As photographers, we see for a living. We capture what exists in the here and now. We love to say we document “candid moments.” And yet, sometimes we don’t truly see what’s right in front of us, at least not in the moment.

Still, we can hope in what isn’t seen.

We can have faith for the weddings not yet booked, for the goals still forming, for the skills we’ve been given not just to hold, but to truly use and pass on. Maybe photography isn’t only about capturing what is,but also about trusting what’s coming.

So here’s to 2026.
Here’s to assurance.
And here’s to capturing the unseen.

Happy February!
